QNB AL ISLAMI TO SPONSOR IIA SEMINAR WITH SPOTLIGHT ON ISLAMIC FINANCE

Doha, 10 November 2009 - The Qatar chapter of the Institute of Internal Auditors in association with the Scientific Accounting Association (Qatar University) is hosting a seminar for members at the Millennium Hotel, Doha on 11 November 2009 at 7pm.

The seminar will focus on the differences between Islamic and conventional banking, as well as identifying the role and importance of Shari’a and internal audit functions in Islamic banking.

The seminar will be sponsored by QNB Al Islami and Mr. Musadag El Melik, General Manager, QNB Al Islami, will be the main speaker. Mr. El Melik is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and holds an MBA in Finance, as well as a post graduate diploma in Islamic banking from the London Institute of Islamic Banking.

With over 27 years experience in banking Mr. El Melik has lead the management team of QNB Al Islami, the Islamic branch of QNB, since its inception in March 2005. In the years since, QNB Al Islami has grown within the market and has consistently proven to be a key player in Qatar’s Islamic banking sector.

This IIA Seminar will commence with a general introduction to Islamic banking, followed by a comparison of Islamic and Conventional banking systems. It will also cover the significant roles of the Shari’a Board, as well as both Shari’a and Internal Audit at an Islamic financial institution.

QNB’s sponsorship of this important IIA seminar is part of the bank’s commitment to supporting the economy, especially in attributing due recognition to significant functions such as internal auditing which ensure the sustainable growth of the economy.
